Cladonia floerkeana

What is a cladonia?

Cladonia are a genus of lichens commonly found in heathlands and areas of clean air. Their form often includes branching hence the name derived from the Greek 'cladon' for branching. They are often recognisable by their bright fruiting bodies (ascocarps) on top of the podetia as in the photograph of Cladonia Floerkeana to the left.
