2. A brief history of sponsorship (Britain)
1965 - Banning of advertising for cigarettes and tobacco on TV;
From around this time there was an increase in the number of television
sets in households in the UK.
1984 - Business Sponsorship Incentive Schemes. Companies were able to
gain rebates of 1/3 of their sponsorship spend under the Conservative
Government.

In 1972 Mintel estimated the value of the UK sponsorship market at £12.5
m, by 1980 their estimate had risen to £35 m and by 1990 this had
reached approx. £228 m.
