Casual shoe last

A last is a foot-shaped block of hard, stable material which gives footwear its shape. A casual last is a standard last. Many companies work to last standards. This is done to provide a consistent product and to provide a basis for grouping to reduce the number of individual components needed.

Lasts also vary because different constructions need different lasts. Sport shoe last varies from girth, width of waist, instep, backpart and from heel width and width of forepart.

On standardised shoe last the areas are often fixed. Naturally change is needed if the shoe last meets various uses (winter boot, ankle boot, sandal, laced-up up shoe etc.). The heel width is wider, waist is on ladies casual shoe last more narrower.

Casual shoe last is more often straighter than sport shoe last. Heel pitch varies the most in sport shoe last to casual shoe last. Fashion oriented casual shoe last is depended on trends (especially on ladies and teenager's fashion).

The forepart and back part of a last are generally hinged to enable them to be removed from the shoe after the shoemaking process. There is a variety of systems available. This system is not eg. needed on a running shoe last because the instep and cone area are more narrow than on casual/standard shoe last.
