Micro-encapsulation or impregnation
Micro-encapsulation or impregnation techniques may be used to introduce
anti-microbial properties which reduce odour formation and the risk of
infection. Similar techniques may be used to incorporate "phase change"
materials which undergo thermal transitions to store and release heat
to the advantage of the user.
There is considerable interest at the present time in conductive textiles,
not just in terms of the elimination of static, but also as conductive
pathways for the connection of electronic components; carbon, metal and
conducting polymers have been investigated for this purpose. Some conducting
materials also may emit light when stimulated.
Modal and lyocell fibres will find some use in active sportswear because
of their hydrophilic nature.
