Raising
Shearing
This process consists of lifting from the body of the fabric a layer of fibres which stand out from the surface using card-wire. Lubricants may be applied to the fabrics to facilitate the separation of the fibres. After raising the pile is brushed and then cut using rotating helical blades which act against a straight edge. The cropped fleece may be treated with a hydrophobic finish e.g. fluorocarbon to give enhanced water resistance in addition to the excellent insulating properties of the fabric.
