Introduction
Textile testing may generally be subdivided into:
- Mechanical
- Physical including physiological and
- Chemical tests
The test method has to be appropriate for the end-use and nature of the
product. Usually different types of equipment are necessary for the testing
of fibres, yarns, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics and non-woven fabrics.
For the testing of fibres, yarns and fabric for sportswear used in sportswear
the specific requirements must be known. They may be very different for
the different activities, e.g. compare skiwear with swimwear.
Physiological testing is extremely significant. To ensure comfort and
performance the designer must take a number of factors into consideration:
fibre type, yarn and fabric construction, finishing and, most important,
pattern and fit with openings for sufficient ventilation.
