Testing Methods
1. Mechanical tests
1.1 On fibres: fineness, staple length, tensile strength and crimp.
1.2 On yarns: count, twist, regularity, cleanliness, faults, tensile
strength, crimp, crimp rigidity, abrasion and shrinkage.
1.3 On fabrics: fabric mass, fabric sett, fabric density, thickness,
tensile strength, slip resistance, seam strength, tearing strength, bursting
strength, abrasion resistance, crease recovery, air permeability, water
resistance, shrinkage, elasticity, flexural fatigue, moisture and water
(sorption and desorption) and pilling resistance.
2. Physical tests
Heat resistance, melting point, flammability, electrostatic behaviour,
heat conduction, optical properties, lustre and physiological properties.
3. Chemical tests
Analysis of fibres and finishes, degree of whiteness, colour, dye affinity
and colour fastness.
