Holes and eyelets for laces

Round eyelet materials are metallic or plastic. Eyelet covers the hole so the hole last longer in wear. The hole is for laces. Very often sport shoes have only a hole for laces. Standardised number of hole/eyelet for a running shoe is 6 to 7 hole in one side of the shoe (= 12-14 holes altogether). For achieving a snug fit around ankle, various holes are used as seen on a figure opposite. These holes can be used if a tighter fit is needed. The variable width allows an alternative set of eyelet holes deeper into the quater. They also allows user to lace on a wider or narrow eyelet spacing. For the holes fashion in design is often used. Shape of the piece (= facing) where holels are, can be i.e. asymmetrical . Materials are often plastic.
