Cotton grows in many parts of the world with a long frost-free season. It requires hot weather and moisture to mature adequately. There are many varieties of cotton producing fibres of different qualities varying in colour fineness and staple length.

Wools are basically hair fibres from sheep. Each fibre develops from a follicle in the skin of the animal. Different animals have characteristic properties arising from differences in fibre diameter, fineness, length, colour, crimp and other physical differences.

Silk is produced by the caterpillars of certain types of moth, silk worms.
